The Frying Pan Theory
Here’s another great example of that Boots theory of socioeconomic unfairness that I was talking about. By the way, if you’re not sure why I keep using that term, go check out some Terry Pratchett, who, in addition to being a great writer, apparently had some interesting ideas about personal finance.

In this case, he’s talking about frying pans, not boots. I think this idea really applies to both of those objects, though, because they are both so commonly used. It’s probably OK if you don’t buy the most expensive immersion blender on the market because most of us don’t use immersion blenders that often. But for something that you wear on your feet or use to cook almost every day, go ahead and spend the money to get quality.
