#27: “Rosebud”
The sled from the famous 1941 Orson Welles’s film Citizen Kane is one of the most iconic pieces of movie history. It only makes sense that one of the greatest directors of our time owns it! Steven Spielberg owns the one and only prop sled that survived the making of Citizen Kane.

Spielberg purchased the Rosebud sled at auction in 1982 for $60,000. In today’s dollar, that’s about $188,000! Spending that much money on a movie prop was definitely unprecedented back in the 80s, but Spielberg really wanted to own the iconic prop. He recently decided to donate the sled to the new Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles, saying “it belongs in a museum” because of its cinematic significance. Pretty cool of him!
