#4: Past the Date
We’ve all been there – staring down a carton of milk that expired three days ago and wondering if pouring it into our cereal bowl is worth the risk. Well, it turns out that most expiration dates are just a suggestion. According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), many foods are safe to eat past their expiration date.

In fact, a study by Harvard University found that the date on the label doesn’t indicate when the food becomes unsafe to eat. I’m not saying you should go out and eat a moldy piece of bread, but it’s good to know that you won’t keel over and die just because your yogurt expired yesterday.
