#27: The Sting of the Scorpion
Scorpion stings are no joke. According to the San Diego Zoo, 25 species of scorpion have venom that is life-threatening to humans. This storyteller had an unfortunate run-in with one of those 25 species when they were in Mexico with their family. They were only nine at the time, so they didn’t realize that they had been stung and were in serious trouble until it was almost too late.

They had reached their hand into a couch cushion and felt a sharp pain. Thinking nothing of it, they went about their day. Then, they started having trouble breathing. Our storyteller’s family immediately knew what was wrong, but there was no hospital nearby. Somehow, they were able to extract the venom and save our storyteller, but not before a scary brush with death.
