These Unlucky Vacation Stories are Real Life Nightmares

Earthquakes cause most tsunamis. This is extra terrifying because we have no accurate way of predicting when an earthquake will happen. So, when you live on or visit an island, there is always that underlying risk factor. This person was backpacking across New Zealand when a giant earthquake occurred in the middle of the night. 

A tsunami warning was immediately issued. They had to abandon their warm, comfy beds and evacuate to higher ground. They spent the next three days stranded on the top of a hill because of the damage caused by the earthquake and tsunami. They may have been uncomfortable, but at least they were alive and safe.
