#30: Buy, Don’t Rent
The best rules we have in life are the ones that come from experience. It doesn’t have to be your personal experience; you can also learn from other people’s mistakes. In this case, this person has learned from his roommate how not to handle money.
This person is absolutely right, and his math checks out. His roommate has paid over $500 to rent a PlayStation, which is more than what it costs to buy a new (or used) one! That is definitely not a smart way to handle your money. Maybe he didn’t figure he’d rent it every month? Either way, we hope this person shared this advice with his roommate and helped set him straight.
