#33: Physical and Mental Health Are Connected
We often view physical and mental health as separate, but they’re deeply intertwined. Grief, extreme stress, and emotional shock can trigger frightening responses within the body. Sometimes, it manifests as flare-ups of existing conditions, pushing someone already vulnerable to their limit. Our bodies are complex, interconnected systems, and we need to treat them like that.
For one family, the devastating loss of a father set in motion a chain of events with heartbreaking consequences. Their mother’s pre-existing colitis erupted with terrifying force. It’s so saddening how stress-induced illness can escalate with shocking speed. If anything feels amiss after physical or emotional trauma, even if it seems connected to pre-existing problems, act quickly.
