#42: Female Health is Always Dismissed
Getting your first period is a confusing and sometimes scary experience. There’s a lot of uncertainty about what’s “normal,” and any unexpected changes can be incredibly alarming. On top of the physical concerns, navigating the social element of getting your period can also be difficult. Adding unexpected medical complications to that mix can make a confusing time feel absolutely terrifying.
This person’s partner had it harder than most. After getting her first period, she experienced a lot of bleeding. Add onto that being dismissed by her doctor. Finally, she was diagnosed with ovarian torsion, limiting blood supply to the ovary and causing her to almost bleed out! It should never have gotten to this point…
