#25: Vacation During the Arab Spring
The Arab Spring was a series of anti-government protests that swept through the Middle East and North Africa from late 2010 through 2012. This person got swept up in this important historical event while on vacation in Egypt. Talk about bad timing. To make matters even more intense, their hotel was located at Cairo’s Tahrir Square.

Tahrir Square is where a majority of protests and demonstrations took place, starting in January 2011. Millions of people gathered in the area, and violence erupted over the course of the protests. As a foreigner, our storyteller was obviously out of place and completely terrified. They even have PTSD from some of the stuff they witnessed while trapped in their hotel. We’re glad they were able to get out safely because not everyone did.
